Replacing Hard Drive (Xbox One)
To replace the hard drive in an Xbox One you will need to get a known working hard drives data, and basically clone the drive.
Remove the old hard drive, connect it to a PC through a SATA to USB adapter. Copy all the contents of each drive:
- User Content (optional)
- System Update
- System Update 2 (usually empty)
- System Support
- Temp Content (optional)
All the optional content does not need copying, only if you want to retain the users data, but you must copy System Update and System Support otherwise the console will not boot and crash or fail at the update stage.
Insert the new hard drive into the PC using the SATA to USB adapter.
Download and run this script as admin the create_xbox_drive.bat script.
Follow the prompts and choose option A to make a new fresh hard drive.
Once done all the partitions will pop up on the new hard drive.
Copy the content from the old hard drive you backed up, back into the right partitions.
Now all you have to do is insert that hard drive back into the console and it should work.
You may sometimes have to then perform a system update. If so, just follow the Offline System Update guide.
