Mattel Intellivision
Initial Boot (Intellivision)
2min
In order to boot at all to even a black screen, you must have at every single power rail. This is because the CPU alone requires the +5, +12, +16V and -3V rails, and the STIC is powered from the 5.7V flying lead rail.
As soon as the 5.7V flying lead rail is present the system boots. It waits until that rail is present before booting.
Without a game inserted there will be a 1 second delay before a black screen / red screen typically. Sometimes you will need to press the reset buttons a few times to get the STIC to come out of reset without a game.
- All power rails must be present
- 4MHz crystal passes through 74LS00 NAND to generate STIC clock.
- STIC !RESET internally pulls to 5.7V (can be sunk by reset button or cart)
- STIC receives 4MHz MCLKA from 74LS00
- STIC generates Phase signals (PH1/2, 11V 2MHz)
- PH1 goes to sound IC
- PH1/2 pass through 7407 Buffer then to CPU
- STIC brings system out of reset by keeping !MSYNC high
- CPU reads game in and the rest of the system all starts up
