Later models got branded directly with the SEGA logo.

The Wondermega is a Mega Drive and Mega CD combined, with a few Karaoke features added on top.

The front left has the power and reset buttons, along with two Mega Drive controller ports.

Hidden behind a sliding cover on the front below the CD drive is a headphone output, as well as two audio microphone inputs used by the specific Karaoke games that were released for the Mega CD and Wondermega.

The Mega CD had an add-on only released in Japan called the Mega CD Karaoke that added these same microphone inputs to the Mega CD.

Karaoke games can be loaded from the Mega CD / Wondermega main menu, where on the top right you have the CDG button, which stands for CD + Graphics. This is a format of disc that allows not just audio but low-resolution graphics to be displayed on screen.

This is the format used for the Karaoke part of the system. Plug in your micrphones and sing along to the lyrics.

On the rear we have the AV ports, of which there are many.

From left to right there are:

  • RF Output (well, its composite, monitor audio and VCC)
  • S-Video output
  • Composite + Stereo Audio (Yellow, Red, White)
  • MIDI Output (for speakers)
  • 9.5V Power 4.8mm x 1.7mm (Same as 32X and Mega Drive 2)

To the far rear left is the EXT port and screw used to attach a Mega Modem which was a 1200bps modem for the Mega Drive.

The modem could be used with special software and games like online banking software and online two player modes, including the SunSoft range of Tel Tel games.

The final touch of class that lets us know this was a Japanese console are of course the LEDs.
