Video Output (Mattel Intellivision)
The add-on board that attaches via the 12-pin cable to the motherboard takes the V1 to V5 data from the STIC and converts it into composite video.
Pin 1 is at the bottom closest to the RF connector and power ribbon.
It is also labelled pin 1 on the underside.
Pin | Name | Notes |
---|---|---|
1 | V3 | īģŋ |
2 | V2 | īģŋ |
3 | V5 | Output of 74LS00 pin 6 Input is STIC V5 |
4 | V4 | īģŋ |
5 | V1 | īģŋ |
6 | 5V | īģŋ |
7 | External Video | Cartridge pin 8 |
8 | Composite Out | īģŋ |
9 | Ground | īģŋ |
10 | 12V | īģŋ |
11 | CSYNC | Output of 74LS00 pin 11 Input is STIC V5 nanded with V1 |
12 | HSYNC (15.62kHz) | Output of 74LS00 pin 8 Input is STIC V5 nanded with V2 |
For a composite output mod, you want to use the CleanComp Universal.
You will get no video output without a game installed and working, otherwise the RF doesn't even show output.
The board that produces the composite video signal is this.
The 2 potentiometers on the top left control the color phase (so color shift) of the video signal.
The composite video comes out of the grey wire that has a ground and video signal.
This composite video then goes through a potentiometer on the board to lower its voltage, so you can use this to tune the output voltage.
Solder your composite video wire directly to the output of the composite board, which has a test pad shown above.
The potentiometer to the right of it (not the blue one below) lowers the composite voltage but is usually fine where it is.
Cut the Video and audio pins going into the RF box, and solder the audio left and right directly to the audio pin on the PCB as shown.
When tuning the color using the two potentiometers, you want to aim to get the 8 squares on the intro screen the correct color.
Ignore the background, as almost all images online show you the Intellivision with a green background, whereas UK PAL consoles for example have a dark red / brown background, and some show a black.
The key is the 8 color squares. Make sure they are the following colors (shown with both green and brown background).
