Clone Amiga Hard Drive to PC (Amiga)
If you want to clone an Amiga hard drive and back it up to a file to PC, for use in WinUAE or just as a backup ready to clone, you need to do a few things.
Firstly, connect the IDE hard drive to a PC through an IDE to USB device. If the hard drive is a Compact Flash, just use a Compact Flash to USB device.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT let Windows format the disk once inserted.
When you connect it to Windows it will popup asking you to format the disk. Click cancel.
Download and run WinImage.
Click Disk > Create Virtual Hard Disk image from physical drive...
Select the drive, and click OK. I also select Dynamically Expanding Virtual Hard Disk so that when flashing it back to another drive the new drive can be any size.
Once backed up you should have a .vhd file (Virtual Hard Disk).
To write the .vhd file back to a drive it is as easy as connecting the new drive to the PC, using WinImage again but this time selecting Restore Virtual Hard Disk image on physical drive...
