Neo Geo AES
CleanLight RGB (Neo Geo AES)
7 min
the neo geo aes has a semi transparent clear black reset button that is perfect for putting some leds inside the cleanlight can be turned on or off, as well as cycle 12 different color profiles the cleanlight rgb for neo geo aes is powered by a rp2040 processor so you can upload custom code yourself if you really wanted, to customise the lights usage the usage is simple hold the reset button for over 1 second to cycle color modes there are 12 color modes and then an off mode to turn off the led pressing the reset button breifly (under 1 second) will act like a normal reset button press installation to install the cleanlight the process is identical, but with various versions of board there will be a subtle difference in where you wire the reset button wires the process involves sticking the led ring over the reset button with the in connector facing towards the back of the console, sticking the retrocore board anywhere you see fit (typically on top of the neo b1 above the reset button), connecting them up with the ribbon cable (making sure to connect the in of the led ring not the out (this is for future led expansion) after this, we want to wire up the retrocore to the following points (or any alternative if you are confident in where they are located gnd to cxk5863p far right pin 5v to cxk5863p far left pin next, we need to cut the reset buttons trace so we can solder the reset button into the retrocore, and then the output from the retrocore can go to the opposite side of the cut because we cut the trace to the reset button intput, we also need to solder in an 1k (or similar, 1k to 10k is ok) pull up resistor on the reset button pin to the 5v rail each version varies slightly but i will provide images of each as i do them neo aes3 6 note where i installed the resistor above it actually hits the plastic ring on the bottom of the console shell housing i recommend using an 0603 resistor or moving the resistor further away to avoid the plastic shell housing testing once installed, when you power on the console the led ring should light up red if in the default state, and the led on the retrocore should pulse slowly purple pressing the reset button in should turn the retrocore led to red (instead of purple) this indicates when the reset button is being pressed and the retrocore knows it is if held for over a second the led ring starts to change colors the color you set will be remembered when you restart the console going through all color modes to the end you can turn off the led if you do not want it on
